When I wrote this poem, I didn’t expect it to find millions of people.
This is the original hand-typed version, created on my 1969 Olivetti typewriter and signed by hand.
Every copy is individually typed—not printed—so no two are exactly alike. The tiny imperfections in the ink and spacing are part of what make each one an original piece.
Printed on the same handmade paper I use for the strangers who sit across from me on the streets of New York.
